Energy conservation and gadgetphilia are tough to combine, but this Power Cost Controller power strip might be just the ticket for those looking to monitor — and potentially cut back on — their power usage. The strip’s display counts kilowatt-hour power usage and tracks by hour, week, month, and year. It also monitors line quality with voltage, line frequency, and power factor readings. We’re just not sure if we really want to know how much power we’re using, but if you’re ready for the bad news, the strip is $99 and available now.

Disney are teaming up with WowWee to make Wall-E into a real robot. The toy, titled Ultimate Wall-E, will retail at a stonking $189.99 and will ship this summer. The robot will feature ten motors for movement, remote control, programming mode and obstacle, sound and touch detection sensors for basic environment interactions.
The collaboration between the big, bad and evil fun-loving kid’s entertainment company and WowWee will further result in a whole host of Disney characters being reincarnated as a scary, robotic army. Next on the list is Tinkerbell, and this time she really flies. The new toys will be showcased at the upcoming Bay Area Maker Faire and, to be honest, we’re a little scared they may all corrupt and attempt to take over the world. You have been warned. [Gearlog]

When we showed you those Sharp X-series ultra-thin LCD TVs recently, we mentioned how Sharp had achieved the slimming down: by putting most of the electronics in a separate box, connected by a single cable. Well, now there’s news that Sharp has teamed up with AMIMON to do away with that cable and transmit the HDTV signal wirelessly to the display from the tuner box. The “WHDI” technology has a range of 100 feet, a latency of less than a millisecond and can transmit through multiple walls. So while the 37-, 42- and 46-inch TVs will now have an optional wireless video transmitter with AMIMON’s tech inside, there’s no info on the price yet. Read on for the full press release.

While mobile TV cellphones are ten-a-penny in the Far East, the West is pretty much virgin territory for them. Samsung’s P960, however, may have got the ball rolling, a mobile TV phone aimed at European consumers. A sleek gray slider, the P960 supports both European mobile TV standards, DVB-CBMS and OMA-BCAST, and its 2.6-inch QVGA TFT screen even lets you watch two channels at the same time. As to whether we’re going to see a US-friendly version later on in the year—well, that’s not clear yet, but since the menu behind the dude is in dollars, perhaps the Koreans are making their press budget go a little further. SEOUL, KOREA - April 30, 2008 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a leading mobile phone and No. 1 TV maker, announced today P960, the world’s first slider type Digital Video Broadcast - Handheld (DVB-H) mobile TV phone P960. As a pioneer of slider mobile phones and TV, it was only a matter of course for Samsung to develop a device that contains both of its strongest strengths in one. P960 is also the world’s first DVB-H mobile TV phone that supports both of European mobile TV standards, Digital Video Broadcast - Convergence of Broadcast and Mobile Service (DVB-CBMS) and Open Mobile Alliance Mobile Broadcast Service Enabler Suite (OMA-BCAST). P960 also proudly features Bang & Olufsen ICEPower® technology for a professional quality audio experience. The battery life of 1200mAh ensures up to 5 hours of TV watching time. While you can argue that Windows Mobile is feature-for-feature and spec-for-spec superior to OS X on the iPhone, Apple’s mobile UI is certainly more fun to use. So if you’re running WinMo with a hankerin’ for rubber band-like scrolling, jiggly icons, screen flicking, SummerBoard themes, and even simulated multi-touch pinching of photos then you’re in luck. Flick Software Research is set to release its iSwish interface and iZoom pinch software in beta come “early May.” Hey Flick, here’s a hint: Dell Axim != sexy demo hardware… or maybe that’s the point.
